Introduction
Bahru Stainless Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian stainless steel production plant, was built in Johor Bahru in 2008 after a feasibility study. The plant, which has 350 acres of land with direct sea access, has a production capacity of 240,000 Mt/year. The first coil was processed in December 2010. The second investment phase, scheduled for Q1 2013, will increase production capacity to 400,000 Mt yearly and specialize in special grades, thin gauges, and products with higher added value. The final stage will be an integrated stainless steel factory with a melting capacity of 1 million Mt and a cold rolling capacity of 600,000 Mt. Bahru Stainless has obtained environmental licenses for the integral production of stainless steel. The plant is located in a strategic point for world trade and has its own port with direct access to the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
